Fall Is Here!

Published by storyteller under Living, Travel Edit This

100_1497-fall.jpgIt is fall in Arkansas and it is a welcomed time of year by those who are fed up with the hot, muggy, stillness of the air.  There are a few of us who are ready for the cold weather and look forward to 50-60 degree days. The crispness of the cooler air, the crunch of leaves under foot, you can smell the leaves with the faint whisper of pine, and cedar.  Aromas fill the air with such a variety,  burning brush and leaves ,cooking of Pumpkins, and Apples for  Cider. When the air is just right you can smell the aroma of Molasses, and even the faint aroma of Cinnamon.  It is a time that people get out their family recipes for all those home-made goodies that take us into the season of Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Which has its own aromas too.  Who needs aroma therapy?  Just go outside to nature and open your mind, as well as your senses.

I have resided in Arkansas about 8 years now, and most of that time I was a Tuck Driver just passing through. I cannot believe that I did not seek out the parks that I passed by or passed through in all this time here.  I always thought I would have time to go and see the places on my so called list.  It is a true pity that I had not, because I feel that I am the one who missed out on the Beauty that surrounds me.

If you live in a city and want to smell and see fall take a road trip alone or with a friend to a remote place where you have never been before.  It is an adventure, and can be an eye opener.  Right now the leaves here are going to reach their peak by early November.  So I am planning for a road trip to such a location.  Armed with a Camera, my senses and my honey by my side we are taking a road trip. I haven’t told him yet, I know he will be excited that I planned it all for us without his involvement.   Not that costly, just a little gas and a lot  of relaxing.    The show of color will go on with or without any one watching it, or enjoying it.  I will take it all in, and enjoy the spectacle and make a day of it.

Who needs to take a costly vacation?  We have nature all around us, and it doesn’t cost anything but a little gas money.  I looked on the Internet at the Parks around where we live.  And I was surprised at what I found out.  This state is LOADED with State and National Parks,  I guess that is why it is called the Natural State.  Petit Jean is probably the park that is the one of the larger ones close to us, so we can go there to see the color of the leaves.  But looking through the list I found that I want to go to the Crater of Diamonds State Park, and the Devils Den State park.  I think that both parks offer a variety of things for both of us.  Even though we are not the outdoorsy kind of people we do like nature, and we do like fall.

If you are looking for something to do on a Saturday or Sunday, that is cheap if not free check out your State and National Forests.  It is usually a minimal fee to get in and all you need is gas and a camera.  And when was the last time you packed a pick nick in a real pick nick basket?  Keep it simple and enjoy the day with your loved one by your side.

Part Time

Published by storyteller under Humor, Living, People Edit This

OK here is the scoop, I took a part-time job.  It has been a month since I have worked and now they are making me  appeal my unemployment, they are making me fight for the morsels that they will throw at me….  Yep so I outwitted them, I took a part-time position at the local tobacco store, which makes me eligible for my partial unemployment>>>HAHA  I outsmarted them!

It would  be 2-4 more weeks worth of worry if I did not take the job.  I have bills to pay just like everyone else, and I like to eat.   The job is a great one since I am a smoker, and I get to smoke inside the store.  No more going outside to smoke in the  100 degree heat, wind, rain, and the future  hail, and muck….I like that aspect of it.  I will be alright now, because I will get to see all my old buds from the chicken plant.  I had applied for the job a long time ago, at least 3 different times I put in applications.  I did not realize how many of  the displaced workers  come into the store almost daily.    They actually say to me ”at least you got a job”, and then we chat about how the Chicken Plant  LIED to everyone in the town, and the lies told and printed in the  newspaper.

They told the paper that all their workers would get a severance package if they worked there longer than a year to start with, and the ones who were there over 10 years or more were supposed to get a good severance  package for their longevity.   “LIAR, LIAR PANTS ON FIRE”  They told that LIE  so that everyone would stay until the last day, so that all their employees wouldn’t walk out.  NO ONE GOT A SEVERANCE PACKAGE with the exception of the Bosses!  The CEO  and Upper level Administration.  Other than that it was a free fall into the world of the unemployed, uninsured, and under-medicated.

So starting my new job last Thursday was good for me, I needed to get out of the house anyway.  It is one of the easiest jobs I think I have ever had, and probably will ever have.  It was really busy Friday which I expected, but it was busy Saturday also.  I have concluded that it might be a sign of the recession we are not in, people are smoking a lot, and it is because they can’t afford to go anywhere.  Or maybe they are really trying to commit suicide in a way that they can smoke themselves to death and won’t have to be here for the recession we are not in.

I know I am bent and twisted, but it seems that we cannot escape the fact that times are hard, and they are hard all over.  That is unless you are a suit and tie, or a CEO, or a Part of the upper eschelon of society.  If being there means I would have to give up my cigs…..forget it,  I won’t do it.  If being there means I would have to lie to the workers who are just getting by, I can’t do it.  If being part of the party means I have to leave one of my comrades behind because they have no control, I can’t do it.  I for one would stick to my fine feathered friends like the dander that I am made of.   I would have to have a solid offer of at least 1 million to even consider the lie.  What can I say I have morals, and ethics.

There are a number of people who come in and talk about the way things are all over, and they are like you and me just shaking their heads and wondering where it all will end up.    And they also wonder what will happen to our town without the Plant, and talk about the politics of the upcoming election.

I wonder what does the average joe the plumber have to do to get the people who are running things to stop.  I would like to see Joe the Plumber go off his rocker, running in the street screaming and waving his wrench in the air.  Oh that won’t work they will just think he is practicing for Halloween.  You know what I think I just figured out why the elections are held so close to Halloween>>>>>>It is so we won’t know they are just kidding, with all the campaign promises, and wishes.

But I think that the American People are just a little smarter than that, how much  smarter seems to be debatable.  I have faced it that nothing will be done and nothing will change, no matter who gets into the White House.  You all know I am right, they make all the projections, promises, and still the poor are stuck and the rich don’t know how many houses they own, or even if they have ever lived in the houses.  I think that is just plain STUPID!  UGH!  How can you not know that you own 7  houses most of which are ESTATES……Give me a break.

Oh I guess if your wife handles everything then you wouldn’t know, because you suffer from Alzheimer’s anyway.  Or is that just selective memory??   Does Ronald  Regan ring a bell with anyone???  It does with me. Does anyone remember Star Wars, and Sky Lab, and ET and the fear of being attacked from outer-space?   I am more worried with being attacked by the folks in the inner-space we all share.   I have listened to all that come in  to the store.  They are worried, but all say they will be Voting.    I KNOW I AM VOTING, I am writing in  a candidate.  I am going to vote for  Wylie Coyote, or TAZ  I am undecided but I have no doubt in my mind that I am voting for one of them……I am so confused.  I don’t feel alone, the customers at the store are feeling it too.  They talk about all of it.  I think I like my new part-time job afterall, for now I will have to.  Have a good day all!

Halloween Memories and Lessons

Missing the Pumpkins, and the things that made Halloween a tradition while my children were growing up.  I used to go all out on the decorating and preparing for Halloween.  Several years in a row I did dress up to give out the Halloween candy while my children were out doing their thing with their dad.  He really was surprised when he would go off to work in the morning, and come home to a house ALL decorated and ready for Halloween just about 2 weeks prior to Halloween.

The last week in September I would figure out what each of my kids were going as for Halloween, so the planning for it would start, and I for one am one of those kind of people……I would buy a few items almost every time I would go into any of the stores.   After taking stock of what I already had as far as decorations.   That way if it was something I did not have I could either buy it or Make it.  Planning is everything when wanting to gain the WOW EFFECT!  And a large number of the neighbors would come by just to see where my Halloween was going to end up.  As my children grew older they were just as involved in the planning and decorating.

It really was a lot of fun, as my children got older and they no longer wanted to go trick or treating, they wanted to stay home and help me with scaring everyone.  And I do mean everyone…some of the kids would start up the walk toward our house and turn around and go get a parent to help them walk up to the door.  It was hilarious to watch them, and I got a kick out of it.  Some of the adults were more scared than their children were.  And it was even comical when the child would be talking to the parent as they were coming up to the door saying “it is all right daddy it is only pretend”  or ” don’t be scared mommy I will not let them get you”

One year I made all the Ghosts that were hanging inside my house out of Old white sheets sprayed with neon green splatters and silver glitter with black lights on in the house and the spooky music playing full blast.  They appeared to be flying inside the house and outside too.  We had a lot of trees up around the front of the house.  Propping the front door wide open for everyone to come into our haunted parlor.  The tombstones in the yard, with mounds of dirt, and body parts coming out of the dirt  our front yard was turned into a cemetery.  Spider webs and huge spiders all around the door,  the pumpkins carved with fretful faces were lit and lined the walkway  And  large bats sprayed with glitter and lights shinning into  the trees where the bats  appeared to be flying also.  All to be met at the door by a ghoul!!  Me dressed in a Green outfit sprayed with neon and glitter in the black-light was totally awesome.  My Black hair teased and standing all over white face paint, black circles black lipstick,  black gloves on my hands so it appeared that I was of the undead.

I made all my costumes, and all of my children’s costumes up until they would want a store bought one.  Around age 8-9 they would want one like all their friends….and that was alright. But up until they reached that age I made theirs and they were always cool.  They would get so many praises and sometimes  extra candy from the people that liked their costumes, and everyone would ask “where did you get your costume?”  And there were times that my kids all 3 of them would come home with a first place ribbons  for the best home made costume when the school would have the Halloween party and pageant.

Then I would enter them in the Halloween parade the town would have and they would win awards there too.  It was great, not just for me but for my children, they learned a lot about planning, and completing the project to the final outcome.   They also learned how to use their imagination, to see it in their head first then to completion.  And they learned how to use their talents at crafting, so to speak.  If they could see it in their minds eye they could create it in reality, and do the best to improvise and create.  Also they learned how to ask for help from one another, not just from me or their father.  That is team work, and children need to know how to work not only as an individual but sometimes as a part of a team.  Halloween has changed so much from when I was a child, and it depends on what part of the country you live in as to the attitude about Halloween.  To me it is still All Souls Day, and that is from my Catholic/Irish  heritage, and I believe that it is a holiday of sorts.

An interesting site to explore the real history of Halloween as we call it is http://www.history.com/minisite.do?content_type=Minisite_Generic&content_type_id=713&display_order=1&sub_display_order=1&mini_id=1076

And go through all the history of Halloween, just to get the bigger picture.  Throughout my upbringing and religious aspects of early childhood there were facts missing about the Halloween traditions, and superstitions that were left out.  And a lot of people just don’t even celebrate the holiday because of the misconceptions they were lead to beleive throughout their lives.  Some Churches condemn people who do celebrate it as a holiday, as if they have the right to sit in JUDGEMENT of those who do.  Just as Most  Churches deny that there is a  great amount of Paganism  tied up in ALL religions as we know them.  How can people celebrate one or two that have paganistic rituals tied to them without celebrating the rest?  Halloween is one that I celebrate just as I celebrate Christmas.

A Ghost In Philly

Published by storyteller under Living, Oddities Edit This

This story deserves to be told now with Halloween just around the corner, and it has been told to me through out my youth.  This story from what all my relatives who were there say it happened and I cannot doubt it since they believe it happened.  It goes back to when my grandparents were starting their family somewhere around 1947, 1950.  They bought a house on the outskirts of Philadelphia, a fairly large 2 story, Victorian style house.  At the time they already had 2 of the 3 children they were going to have, and my great aunt lived with them also.  She was a great woman in my eyes, and also my favorite aunt!  She was employed by a large hospital at the time where she worked almost all her life.  She was a switchboard operator at that hospital.  Now the house was bought and moving in was taking place.

At the time my uncle was a young man about 10-13, And there was a lot of activity that goes on when moving into a new place.   A short time after moving in and getting settled in things started happening in this house.  Things would go missing such as jewelry, keys, coins, any thing shinny.  The top hobnails on lamps would turn up missing,  and at one point my grandmother would even question her own sanity.  Nothing could be left just lying around because it would go missing without even a trace that it was ever where it was left.   There would be the usual house sounds, and then some more unusual things would start happening, the house was always cold and damp feeling, And no matter what they would do it always smelled musty, or mildewed.  They had only been in the house less than a month and the Rugs, Sofas’, and Chairs would get musty smelling, and within a couple of weeks they would get this green looking mold or moss on them like the kind that grows on trees.  Even the drapes in the house would do the same.

Back then they would drag all the furniture outside, they would use a broom to beat the fabric to get deep inside the fabric.  Then they would proceed to Scrub the items down with a solution that contained bleach thinking that the bleach would kill out the mildew. And then let the furniture air out, in the sun to freshen it up.    Well that would have worked under normal circumstances.  They would repeat this time after time, after time over the next couple of months, and things were getting worse and worse with noises that could not be explained, hearing chanting, bells, and drums like they were off in the distance.   Things moving from where they were placed, and also things going missing, and that dreadful feeling that they were being watched.  They were devout catholics and had even called a priest to bless the house……He was not comfortable in the house either, but did not say anything to them about it until later.

My Great Aunt had been working at the hospital as a Switchboard Operator at the Large Hospital there in  Philly, and had come home late one night.  She went into her room and shut the door, she never locked her door to her room.  This was not an issue in my grandmothers house.  If the door was shut you knocked and waited for whomever to say “Come in”  that was just the way it was.  She did her normal routine to prepare for bed and everyone in the house was already asleep.  So she was just settling into bed with a book and a bedside lamp to unwind from work that evening.  She put the book on the bed-stand turned the lamp off, and had just settled down on the pillow.  Right then she felt a Coldness in the room, and was laying there all of the sudden she felt as if someone had their hands around her neck……..She couldn’t  breath!!  She was struggling with something that her eyes could not see!!

She was trying to scream, and gasping for air and knocked the lamp on the floor, and things off the bed-stand when just by chance my uncle was up and using the facilities and heard all the items hit the floor.  He rushed to her door knocking frantically and asking if she was OK, no answer and more stuff falling to the floor he reached for the door knob as he was yelling for my grandparents to come quick, and turned the knob>>>>It was locked!!  She never locks her door…..Now he is frantic, and my grandparents come running, all the lights in the house on the top floor are on, and everyone is beating on the door, no answer, just things hitting the floor, crashing and banging, metal sounds,  And they can hear the struggle, just can’t get to her,  my young uncle takes a run at the door with his shoulder down and bangs into it, the door flies open, as light floods the room, my aunt takes a deep breath, and gasp for air…..coughing, and crying, and everyone upset.  They all rush to her immediately, as she is now coming back from being a blue color.   She gets up and is packing a bag…..”I am not staying here anymore…..someone doesn’t want me here, they tried to kill me.”

My grandparents are questioning her as to what happened when my uncle noticed a perfect set of hand prints on both sides of her neck they are all red and purple looking and quite large as if they belonged to a man.   And they questioned her about the locked door……”I didn’t lock my door, I never lock my door”  as she is packing to leave….That is the moment that my grandparents decided to get out of the house….They just left that night.  They left almost everything they had right there that night.  They traveled to a relatives home and stayed with that relative until they settled in NJ.  After 3 months of serious thought  they put the house up for sale, and it stayed on the market for several months.  No one would buy it, it is like all the locals knew what happened there, and theirs wasn’t the first case for that house.

It was almost a year later they had an offer on the house and the land, it seems that they were going to tear the house down to put a shopping center on the land……….They took the offer, and had to go  there to get  any of the things that they left if  they wanted  them prior to the tear down.  They went to retrieve  the items out of the house and watched them tear it down.  The next few days after they returned home they received word from the builders there that all work was stopped, because the land was being excavated  under the historical society now.  They found an ancient Indian Burial Ground under the foundation of the Old Victorian House, and had to turn it over to  Historical Society.  No one knew that the house had been put over the site of an Indian Burial Ground.  Now it all made sense to my Grandparents, and my Great Aunt why the things happened the way they did.  And after it was all said and done, the former neighbors came forward and told them of others who had owned the house or rented the house and how they never stayed for long periods of time.

I hope you enjoyed my story and it is true to the best of my recollection of what was told to me growing up in a family of believers.  Have a great day and smile!

Here’s your Sign!

A sign that things are really bad in your town is when the local Thrift Store closes. Isn’t that a sign of something?? I really am scared now, I wasn’t to afraid a few weeks ago. The thrift store is where I got a good deal on all my Tan and Khaki colored pants when I was loosing weight. Now all I have is memories, and lots of Tan and Khaki colored pants. What can I say about our town?? It is sinking fast, like a ship going down that has been Pirated or Pillaged. I feel like they forgot to put the life rafts on the boat before it sailed.

Folks I can’t swim either, so now I really feel as if I will drown, and die. They forgot the life boats and now I find out they only have a few life jackets and none of them are a fit for me. Going into down town is a reminder of the proverbial ghost town. Hmmm maybe I should put in a request to the Paranormal research society for a ghost hunt in our used to be town……just to see what may be lurking in the shadows of economic collapse of a town in the middle of nowhere.

I am not kidding, this is very traumatic to say the least, and worry is one thing that I do not do very well. Now in the course of finding this out, I also found out some other information…..The City council here voted down a proposal of 2 businesses coming into the building that used to be where I worked….and guess what?? One of them used to be here years ago and is one of the bigger Chicken Companies. Yep no real changes except it would be under a new name, and repairs to the building might actually take place. Oh and I forgot most of the 360 employees would be able to just come back to the same place under different rules and colors on the uniforms. And some of us might actually have a chance at jobs that fit us instead of using us as the flock or heard all in some vice grip. Of course there would be no more union that is why they shut down, they wanted the union out of there.

I for one am upset about this…..I have it from a good source that the reason it was voted down 2 times, 2 different companies, is our Mayor….(the Old Goat) who is as old as dirt and needs to be checked for Alzheimer’s in my opinion. He was the deciding factor and the reason this was voted down>>>>??? He wants this area to maintain higher standards by becoming a resort kind of town>>>>>HA! OH MY GOD! OK this just floored me…..I am still on the floor. Let me pose this question….Don’t you usually need an attraction to the resort kind of town??? Such as Businesses, Specialty Shops, things with a Theme, A casino, A famous Waterway, Slopes for skiing, A College, Wining and Dining establishments??? You know stuff that will bring in visitors and tourists that become residents? Oh did I mention that wining is out since we live in a Dry County, the nearest Alcohol is almost 20 miles in any direction. Isn’t it necessary to have any of the things I listed or is this just a myth and I am totally out of the loop??? I for one want this explained to me, I need to have this explained to me.

I will set this up for you readers, this town is 1/2 way between 2 larger cities and is still relatively a Country Setting….Not Urban, Not Suburbs, Not even thriving nor is it expanding. We loose 2-3 businesses that open up for 1-2 months then close….Why you ask? IT COULD BE THAT WE HAVE NO JOBS!! NO JOBS BECAUSE OF NO INDUSTRY!!

We had the Chicken Plant, The Boat factory, And a Plastics Business And a hot water heater plant when I moved here 5 yrs. ago. With that we have 1 Wal-Mart, a General Dollar, and a Family Dollar, 1 Harvest Foods, A Radio Shack, 2 Laundromats, 2 car washes and about 5 banks 2 motels, and a pet store. We have an overabundance of Dr.s some of which aren’t any good, and we have a Hospital that kills people because they are not equipped with good help…. Now we had a tornado come through February 5 2008 in the upper side of town and wiped out 1/2 of the town. Small businesses were damaged and a lot of trees that used to line the streets leading down the hill into our town are gone along with a lot of really nice houses and lives that were changed forever. Prior to this past year the Hot water heater company closed, as did the Plastics company, the tornado took care of the Boat Factory and just in this month the Chicken Plant closed their doors. We also had 3 antique places, and a Bakery all have closed except one antique shop….. What would be the Attraction for anyone to settle here??? Most of us with common sense are leaving the area in search of JOBS!!!

The mayor of this town needs to go to the Nursing Home and admit himself. There is only a KFC, A Sonic, A Mc Donalds, A Taco Bell, and a Pizza Hut. As far as fast food, then we have a Western Sizzler and a Waffle House for sit down meals. The Cat Fish House, And the Country Kitchen, have closed. The only BBQ place is owned by a man who only stays open when he feels like working. Some days he is there all week then closed for several days then open 2 days but closes at 3 PM missing the dinner crowd…..AND SO ON! You ask why I moved here? To get out of an area that was over run with Drugs and Crime, for the country setting, for the fact we had friends who lived here and loved it. Other than that I am finding that if I want to have a normal life in this town I must go on Food Stamps, Collect disability (which I do not qualify for) or get a bunch of kids so I could milk the system(which I do not qualify for that either)

Because working in this town keeps this town poor. $6.50 an hour, all part-time work, no benefits, or any kind of insurance. Yep I guess that will attract the big spenders that will want to invest, and open up businesses…Oh did I mention that the town also has over $756,000.00 missing County Funds from 2005-2008….It was discovered that the Sheriff doesn’t keep records on paper it is all inside his head as to where the money is………..GEEZE!

Yep this would be a good sound investment for someone to turn this around and make it a resort. I just don’t know what FOOL and his Money would be parted. Might be a relative of our illustrious Mayor or maybe some kin folk to the  Sheriff  since they have the money and the rest of us don’t

Halloween TV

Published by storyteller under Living Edit This

This is the season for all things scary, Friday Night and all day Saturday, I didn’t write anything because I was busy. Still looking for work, filling out all kinds of online applications. Then I got some work done here , Laundry,Cleaning, and such. I then proceeded to watch a little TV, “Haunted History” is one that I watch on Saturdays, if I am home. I then watched a program with back to back episodes….I like those kind of programs,  especially  if I haven’t  watched the program in a while, it offers a chance to catch up on what I may have missed…….

The Bio Channel also has a few shows that intrigue me. one of them is “Psychic Kids” with Chip Coffey it looks into the world of Children with psychic abilities and are just learning how to use their abilities. Some of these children are young, very young and have talents such as Seeing Auras, Being able to Diagnose a Health Issue, Healing, Seeing Ghosts of Humans, Animals, and even Seeing Demons or Evil Entities. Several Children, have been able to see Visions of Future Events, Natural Disasters, and even have the abilities to Find Missing People.

I watched the “The Most Extreme Halloween” it was a good show.  All about PUMPKINS, and how some people do the carving and a bit of Trivia information. Some of the  PUMPKIN CARVING is really an Art form….It was a good show.  I didn’t get to see all of it but I will when they rerun it. The one I watched after dark was on the Travel Channel and is called “Ghost Adventures.” What they showed in this show is mind blowing.

Most of the cases I had previously viewed on the “Ghostly Encounters” show. It is on during the day about 11:00 AM where I live. And since I worked nights I could catch that show when I couldn’t sleep. It showed a lot of things that were on the other show. It can be found on  Discovery Channel here where I live.   I think that my most favorite is the “Ghost Hunters” the TAPS Group is great and I have been watching that one since the start.  They do a special on their Show a Live show on Halloween. This year it is going to be at Fort Delaware, which housed over 30,000  confederate Soldiers, of which as many as 24oo died.  If  some of the spirits can’t rest it should be a good show with lots of activity. They have gone to a closed down Sanitarium in KY and did a live show.   That one was a great show, and they had all kinds of Paranormal Activity on that show.  And Now TAPS also has the ”Ghost Hunters International” Which is a good show also.  They can be found on the Sci-Fi Channel.   They have come a long way since the beginning.

The second favorite is the show “Most Haunted” on the travel channel. They go to Castles, Mortuaries, Cemeteries, Breweries, and Old Factories that have been abandoned. They usually have a Medium present, and a Skeptic also. It is a really good show. The travel channel has quite a few shows that I watch on a regular basis, when I am able to.

Now they are going to have a new series starting Friday, Dec.12, ” Most Haunted USA”…….this should be a good one. We have a lot of haunted places here in the USA….I can’t wait until they start that one. But back to the fact it is Halloween this month, they are having a lot of shows on all that day and into the night on the Travel Channel. Just look up your local listings to see when they are on. Or you can go to their website http://www.travalchannel.com  and look up the heading TV Shows and pick which one you want to view then get the schedule by the week.

“I do believe in Spooks, I do believe in Spooks” as the cowardly lion from the Wizard of OZ put it. So if you have nothing to do on Halloween just pop some pop corn and grab a seat and watch all that is going on in TV. With the Travel Channel, and others who present Ghost Busting, and Spirit Chasing, And Honest to goodness bump in the Night, this could happen in your house kind of Scary Stuff.

Working a Hobby

Published by storyteller under Hobbies, Living Edit This

People need a hobby, just something to distract from the real and true problems of everyday life.  I find that most of my friends and associates even my former co-workers all have one thing in common……the need for MONEY.  That is all it is about in their lives…..the $$$$that they need just to get by, or to give away when paying their bills.  Don’t get me wrong I know that everyone right now is extremely stressed about the current chain of events in our economy.  And yes it is the forerunner in most peoples lives, but really all the stress it is causing isn’t doing you or your family any good at all.  There is a time that you must leave it in the hands of the greater powers that be……and find a way to un-stress.

Most men have a hobby carried from boyhood to adulthood, or have developed some kind of hobby  along the way.  Such as Fishing, Hunting, Model Building , Stamp Collecting, Coin Collecting and so on.  But most women leave their Hobby from childhood somewhere in their adolescence.  Once they marry,  the  Hobby is thrown out with the bathwater of their new-found  position as a wife and mommy.  That Hobby they had takes a real backseat to all the needs of everyone else in their life.  The collection of Dolls, Music-boxes, Barbies,  Sewing and even Jewelry Making is pushed aside for another day.  Those Hobbies could be providing you with a way to escape and un-stress, and also could be making real money for your secret stash.

There was a time while I was married to my former husband that the hobby I had turned into a real money maker.  That was over 14 years ago, when we had children at home and needed the money for incidentals.  I did not work and was a stay at home mom, daycare was outrageous where we lived and I couldn’t stand being away from my kids for any length of time.  NO ONE COULD DO THE JOB BETTER THAN ME  anyway.

So I went back to the things that interested me when I was a kid.  And found that I had a knack for looking at something and seeing it as a finished product.  I would buy bits, and pieces that would not be related to anything and put all the components together  and make some really beautiful things.  Lace, Flowers, Silk ribbon, Plaster Hearts, Wooden Baskets, Bamboo Woven fans, Poly-Resin items, themed pieces and somehow I ended up with a in-home craft business.  It was great!   It earned money above the expense, and I would only invest a small part of the money back into it to keep the supply of items I needed.

The business took off and the exposure was through PTA, Schools, Church, And various clubs and organizations that we belonged to.  My husband would come home with orders from women he worked with that had seen some of my creations at a friends home. I would offer a large item to be raffled off at some events locally and make sure my phone number was available for orders. I even had an open house when I had enough samples of the items I would keep on hand.   Or a teacher would take delivery of an item, and another teacher would see that item and want one too.

It came at a time that my family was so strapped, and that Christmas  was the best one that my family ever had due to the abundance of the profit made from a hobby.  Explore the idea, and you might just find a way to make extra money from something that you love doing.  If you need help in getting ideas there are a lot of books out there on the subject.

I can recommend one that I have personally read, and that inspired me to give it a second chance now that I am in a different environment and a different state.  Work your job and do your business as a side line until you see if you can grow the business.  There is no need to start with all kinds of overhead, and to start off extravagantly…..that is not how businesses were built way back when.  They were started in the basements, or kitchen tables, or spare rooms all over the country.  And we all need to get back to that right now, build a reputation, and a name on your honesty, and hard work, and service to the customer and who knows you may have  something to leave to your children, or grandchildren.

Have a good day!

Book recommendation:  ADAMS- Businesses you can start Almanac—-it has over 500 business ideas and all the details on the start-up, and potential earnings you can make.

A Good Read

This morning I was looking at my favorite site wanting to know what happened last night  on the show.  I missed it because I went to bed after my regular Wednesday show on  Sci-Fi Channel.  And for some reason I actually slept until 3 AM this morning, so I got online to check my mail and went to coast to coast am site, I found out they had Jim Marrs on for one hour last night.  He is pretty interesting and I clicked on the link and listened to the pod-cast.  Then I clicked on to his site and ventured around, I haven’t seen his site in a while.

Jim is a very interesting individual and he discusses a wide range of subjects too.  http://www.jimmarrs.com/  I went there and clicked on the secrets of Redgate which took me to a page that reads Secrets of Redgate at the top.  But at the side bar on the left at the very top there is a heading about Deer Lodge history.  I clicked on it and it was really interesting to get the history of Deer Lodge Montana.  I have never been there but I have been through Montana in a Big Rig, on my way to Spokane WA.  I love the area up there it is truly beautiful, and full of history.

Then I clicked back to the first page and scrolled down….to the list of articles.    I went to the one  Titled  545  written by Charlie Reese.  I did not know some of the information that the writer put in there.  It is definitely worth the time to go there and read it.   While you are on the site look at the archives to find the other article the date of  July 22,2008  on Protecting Banks and Not Borrowers written by Jerry Mazza.  and it is an eye opening piece.  The article covers some of the things that had been done to implement what is going on right now.  All the way back to 1980’s.  I for one was enlightened by the information, and thought OH MY GOD!  I for one agree with what Charlie Reese had to say about the 545, that is exactly what needs to be done and when it happens I can only hope it is not too late for all of us.  Just some good reading if you have some time take a look at the site.

Also when you are there on the home page there is a heading at the very top that reads Friends of Jim, click on it and see other links to other sources of information.  Other web sites with all kinds of Information, Erthfiles is a good site, and so is Info Wars.  I visit some of them from time to time to get news and information you won’t find in the mainstream News stations.

All the news we are going to get is the same on all the channels just with a little bit of a spin depending on which stations you watch.  Just take notice what is on one channel, is almost at the same minute of time on the other station and sometimes they mix up the order to throw  you off, but it is the same.   If you doubt it just switch around and go from one to the other using your recall button…..See if I am right.  Just food for thought and good reading!

Gas Going Down??

Published by storyteller under Humor, Living Edit This

WOO-HOO!!  I AM SO GLAD TO SEE OUR GAS IS COMMING DOWN FOR THE MOMENT.  Party!!  Yep there are people up here where I live that are actually throwing parties to celebrate the change in gas prices…… I HAVE BEEN TO 2 ALREADY! and have been invited to 3 more. The most recent invitation takes place on Saturday  with the stipulation that the party will be on as long as prices are below $2.80 a gallon.  They are saving money on gas to buy food again so they want to share the new found freedom….

But not me I want to throw caution into the wind….If my memory serves me correct this is what happens before the storm….It comes down right before it jumps a $1.  This time it will be a $2 jump, I just feel it in my soul…..I keep telling them not to get carried away, with parties that have a lot of beer and ribs, and stuff they couldn’t afford before the drop in Gas.  Snacks and Pop, even fancy cakes  and spending the money they don’t have.   Oops…..that is the banks that do that not my friends.

Yep gas has gone down in leaps and bounds around here and you find yourself just stopping at every station, to ask the clerk inside if the sign is right? ” Hey is that sign outside right?” and then they smile at you with that evil type grin, you know the grin that sends a chill over you.  Like they know something that you don’t>>>Yep that grin where you can just about see the clerk smirking  as if to say to you “I know something you don’t know”!

That Grin where you can almost see the horns coming out of their head and they are growing a tail  at the same time.  It could just be that they are getting an early start getting into their Halloween Costume, but then you realize that is not true….Don’t you feel it??  I do we just got less angry about the gas prices because there really was nothing we could do about it…Pay the price or Stay at home.

And you know the Gas Companies couldn’t leave well enough alone, they have to make sure that all the predictions over $4.00 a gallon gas will happen…..So they just ease us into it.  Yep that is right here is my Caution Into the Wind…….”HELLO!!  IS ANYBODY PAYING ATTENTION??”  it goes down so they give us a break for a week or two then BOING! BOING! Whoop, Whoop…..$4.00 a gallon.

You know this is a big thing, especially now in my neck of the woods IT IS THE CONVERSATION ALL OVER TOWN.  And everyone is so excited about it it reminds me of a child with a new toy! “ What is in the box?  I want my present!…OHHH< I love it, Gimme, Gimme>>>OH WOW!  Can I keep it? ”  that is exactly what the conversations remind me of an excited 4 yr. old with a present!  But I will throw it out there BUYER BEWARE!

For everyones  sake I really hope I am wrong, and everyone can benefit from the lower prices, including me.  But after all the economic turmoil  that we all have witnessed lately it is hard to remain optimistic at this point in time.   It is also hard to remain hopeful that some one will care to help others who have been struggling so hard just to get by.  The CEO’s of the Gas and Oil corps make so much more profit than the thieving banks and we should be worried because when we the poor people get worry lines we have nothing left for Botox  injections!!  Most of us who live in the real world and are affected with decisions of the corporations have to just live with our worry lines and age spots. Since we are mostly unemployed and uninsured, and very disturbed individuals.  Hope I made you giggle  have a good day!

COUPONS ARE COUNTERFEIT???

Published by storyteller under Humor, Living Edit This

SHOPPING NOW DAYS IS LIKE HITTING THE LOTTERY IN MY OPINION!! Yep you might get something for your money then again you might not. We are kind of limited on Grocery stores where I live. Not to mention a little short on Jobs to. The grocery stores here are Harvest Foods and The Wal-Mart…….did I mention there are no jobs here either? Sure I shop at the Wal-Mart doesn’t everyone? but it seems that they have a new policy, raise the prices when you know there are Old People, Disabled People, and Unemployed people coming in on certain days of the week.

This is no stretch of the truth>>>>In 4 days a product that I have been using and like had gone up $ .45 in just 4 days!!!! Now that same product over the past 6 months had gone up just by $.02-$.05 every 4-6 weeks a gradual increase which didn’t send me into sticker shock.   The other thing is that they hired the old buyer from target who doesn’t know the first thing about this area around here and what the people are like in this area!! Wal-Mart just wants to be a Target>>>>I got red paint!! (That is that they are trying to pull business away from Target)   But I guess now that I have NO JOB, and NO JOB PROSPECT every penny is needed especially since I may need those pennies to put into my gas tank to look for a JOB! It is getting ridiculous with prices of everything!  I am starting to think that I may have to raffle off my jewelry, and my old man>>>won’t get much for him I don’t think.   Might if I sell tickets 3 for a $1.00.

And you know I could not imagine having to put food on the table for a Family with Children…..I would be a raving lunatic going from store to store looking for coupons real coupons. It seems that someone at WAL-MART doesn’t know how the coupon sites work and that they are not counterfeit coupons……And since you are raping me anyway I won’t need coupons for that service I guess.

It seems to me that they could afford to pay someone to go to the Coupon sites to see just how it works…..First you sign up, then they show you all the coupons which are being offered by manufacturers you choose which ones you want or will use……You check the box on each one you want or NEED and then hit print…..The site will only allow you to print ONE or sometimes TWO depends on the manufacturers offers….It is not allowed for you to get more. They track it by your computer Identification…And once you have the ones you want or need you cannot log off and get back on and get more either.

It is such a paper saver and it is such a relief to people who are really strapped right now. WAL-MART …………

SHAME ON YOU!!

IT IS A GREEN THING!! Think of all the trees you would be helping to save and not to mention helping the families of areas just like here>>>>we had a tornado, lost all kinds of stuff, then we have lost businesses, and now more jobs….Now we have to take food from the children because no one cares. Just like our city council voting NO to businesses that want to open here in Clinton AR.  That just isn’t right! WE NEED JOBS, WE NEED CHEAP GAS AND WE NEED COUPONS!!
